You know when God speaks people must listen! That’s what occurred when Brisbane Roar coach Robbie Fowler passed comment on the standard of refereeing in their game against Western Sydney “I thought he was bang average tonight” in relation to referee Chris Beath. Beath had a busy night handing out 7 cards and Fowler was at odds to point out that is team is not a “dirty team”.

It mattered little as Roar completely dominated to win 3-1. Roar had double possession and three times more shots on goal. Gun recruit Scott McDonald has singlehandedly transformed Roar since January being in the think of action since his move from Western United. McDonald scored in the 3rd and 37th minute with Jay O’Shea scoring a penalty in the 72nd minute. For Wanderers captain Mitch Duke scored in the 54th minute.

Adelaide United welcomed Western United and the home team were in a world of hurt right from the outset. Besart Berisha was the star with two goals. He has now scored against Adelaide United on 21 occassions. Berisha was dynamite scoring in the 18th and 56th minute. Captain Allesandro Diamante is possibly the marque of the season and he scored in the 32nd minute. Max Burges scored in the 38th minute and Connor Paine 48 to make it 5 goals.

For Adelaide only Riley McGee in the 25th minute troubled he scorers. Adelaide United coach Gertjan Verbeek is majorly under the pump following his team’s latest loss – a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Western United. They have conceded 12 goals in their three-game losing run, and now find themselves in seventh spot.

Sydney FC travelled to Etihad stadium to face Melbourne Victory, as expected Sydney had too much class and got a 4-1 win. Victory’s season has been a debacle and losing in this fashion to Sydney will do the natives no favours. Victory’s only goal came early in the game when Marco Rojas The New Zealand international danced past the Sydney defence then skipped around Alex Wilkinson before chipping the ball over Andrew Redmayne and into the roof of the net. For Sydney they blew the game open in a 23-minute window to score 3 goals (Milon Ninkovic 43, Anthony Caceras 64, Adam leFondre 66). Interesting enough ex Victory star Kosta Barbarousis took a penalty late in the game to add further misery.

Wellington Phoenix made the trek to Gosford to play Central Coast Mariners and this was boys against men. The Phoenix are a class outfit and were more clinical despite Mariners having more shots on goal. For Phoenix Liberato Cacace 18, Garry Hopper 30 and Jaushua Sotirio 78 were the goal scorers. Mariners got on the board late with Jair scoring in the 89ht minute.

Perth Glory hosted Melbourne City in a massive game
Melbourne City had the goalpost to thank after holding off a frenetic fightback from Perth Glory to post a 3-2 A-League victory in Perth.
City led 3-0 after 34 minutes of Sunday’s clash following goals from Rostyn Griffiths, Florin Berenguer, and Market Susaeta.

Glory’s Joel Chianese’s 53rd-minute strike and Bruno Fornaroli’s 65th-minute effort igniting the 8107 crowd. Perth skipper Diego Castro came close to levelling the scores on 74 minutes, only for his curling strike to rebound off the upright. Not to be outdone, the crossbar saved City in the 90th minute when goalkeeper Thomas Glover got a fingertip onto
Fornaroli’s strike. Perth would have jumped to second spot with a win so were noticeably disappointed. Instead, they are now fourth and six points adrift of second-placed City, albeit with a game in hand.

Wellington are now in third spot – three points behind City and three points ahead of Perth. Tony Popovich’s men have posted just one win from their past six matches to drop to fourth.

This week’s games:
Perth Glory will be aiming to regain their mojo when they take on ladder leaders Sydney FC at Jubilee Stadium on Saturday. Hard to see Sydney lose this game.

Brisbane Roar will start as hot favourites when they host the Mariners on Friday night as they look to shore up a top 6 spot.

Wellington Phoenix will be aiming to put another dagger into Melbourne Victory’s disastrous season and should win 3-1.

City host Wanderers and should win 2-1.

Adelaide play a well-rested Newcastle. This will be a 1 all draw
